About the FSA

Farringdon Village is a small, rural community with obvious roots in farming; geographically widely distributed and with no common amenities, such as pubs or shops, apart from its church and hall. The Farringdon Society of Arts was founded in April 2004 for the purpose of further drawing together a diverse community and encouraging a sense of belonging in what is now a more secular world. All our committee members share the same enthusiasm and a sense of the fun that this project provides, together with a desire to revive the village spirit .

The FSA was launched in July 2004 with a "summer spectacular" featuring Elizabeth Jane Baldry, an internationally acclaimed harpist, and this first event was attended by sixty people. Since then a large number of very diverse event have been held (some are featured in the Gallery section and all are listed at the end of this page) and the success has been such that the original "founding five" were in danger of becoming overwhelmed with the work of organising the FSA. As a result, the FSA was restructured at the end of 2006, and the new organisation is outlined below.....

The FSA is now a group of several organisations all under the overall umbrella of the FSA but each acting in a more self-contained way, although they do of course collaborate. These groups are outlined in "The FSA Groups". The "Events Calendar" contains a master list of all the events organised by the FSA Groups plus the occasional local event that might be of interest to members.

Instead of an annual membership, people can sign up once and for always as a "Friend of the FSA". Friends receive a copy of "FSA The Film", which is a film made by a young local film-maker of a year in the life of the FSA, as well as an invitation to our annual "Friends Party". See "Contact the FSA" to get the contact to enquire about being a friend.

The FSA is a non-profit making organisation, and all entry charges go towards the running costs as well as charities. Membership of the "Friends of the FSA" is open to all.

Farringdon is located just East of Exeter and can be reached from the A3052 Sidmouth Road, just past Westpoint and almost opposite Crealy Adventure Park.
